Key Spouse Program

What is the Key Spouse Program?
The Key Spouse Program is a commander’s program. The role of the Key Spouse is defined by the squadron and tailored to the individual needs of that squadron.  However, in general, Key Spouses are a focal point for information and support to families in their squadrons.  They are someone to listen when people need to talk, and can also point families in the right direction for various services.  Key Spouses are a valuable part of the squadron’s team.  This team usually consists of the Commander, First Sergeant, Commander’s Spouse and the Key Spouse.  The Key Spouses are directly linked to the Airman & Family Readiness Center, which provides an excellent source for information and support.  Key Spouses are important resources for military families because they are PEERS.  As Air Force spouses they “know what it’s like!”

Who is eligible to receive support from a Key Spouse?
Any spouse! Are you new to Dyess or feeling disconnected, not sure where to turn for help? Key Spouses are available to help from each military member’s respective squadron. They provide a framework of stability for the families by peer-to-peer support and vital training to assist with the quality of life by referring programs available at Dyess AFB and downtown services.
Deployments, extended TDYs and Remote assignments are nothing new for our military members and their families. Dyess AFB is a high deploying base and our active duty military are deployed more and longer than ever before. During these long separations, families may be left to handle the challenges without the physical help from the military member. The spouse could feel overwhelmed with maintaining the home, vehicles, children and their own work obligations. The good news is they are not alone! Again, Key Spouses have a magnitude of knowledge and experience that could help alleviate stress for the family. Contact your squadron’s First Sergeant to learn more on how Key Spouses can help!

Key Spouse Training
Dyess AFB squadrons are always looking for energetic spouses that would like to volunteer and be a part of the Key Spouse Team. There is no experience required just a compassion and commitment to help others with a positive attitude. The Airman & Family Readiness Center provides initial Key Spouse Training and offers free lunch & childcare during the training. The next available training dates will begin in January, 2009. To learn more about your unit’s Key Spouse Program please contact your squadron’s First Sergeant or the A&FRC for details.
